Munich Airport live flight information

It does not make sense to duplicate existing information, I guess this would be call plagiarism. If you are like me, on a sunny day you notice the aircraft flying overhead, and wonder. Where has it come from, where is it going, what type of plane is it, etc etc. There is a Blog that has all this information for just about anywhere on earth, including Munich Airport live flight information. You can load the link and then select the part of the the world you are interest in. Naturally Munich is very interesting, so I would recommend this as a starting point. See flying as you have never seen it before.

Use the + and – signs at the top left hand to view the map at the level of detail you would like. Flying aircraft are normally shown as a yellow symbol. With the mouse you can click on a plane and see the type, the high it is flying at, the speed and much more. Zoom down to the airport level and click on the airport symbol and there is flight arrival and departure times.

Apps available

There are Apps available for most Smartphones and tablets. See the Munich Airport link above for more details.

Happy New Year

Welcome to the Munich City Guide

We are the original Munich City Guide and would like to wish all visitors a very Happy New Year. This is the time that we think about 2015 and what is the future is going to be in 2016. Many things will happen we are not prepared for. But we can prepare ourselves better if we have information to help make life threatening decisions.

Hewlett Packard and others are sponsoring a website that has some very interesting free films, from Julia Roberts, Harrison Ford, Robert Redford etc. Take 2 minutes out of your busy time schedule at look at the following video, a decision you will be pleased you made.

Now if that made you think, take the next step and pass it on, via Facebook, Twitter or any social media. If enough people do that, then HP will make a special payment to the creating organisation, Conservation International. If you are more of an activist, trying sending it to your elected representative. Every representative all over the world should view and take note. This is Mother Nature talking to you.

See how the Kodak DC120 camera transformed this website in 1997

Kodak DC120 digital camera

The original Munich City Guide started in 1996, and in 1997 the first digital photographs from the Kodak DC120 camera appeared. To read about this interesting story, with original images, see the Kodak story here

The Kodak Digital Camera and the Anatomy of a Business Dynasty Downfall

Kodak pioneered the development of digital cameras early on, and the DC series was the brand’s consumer-grade line sold during the middle and late 1990s. It supported only serial port connections, as USB did not yet exist. Eventually, the DC series was replaced by the Kodak Easy Share digital cameras.

Nymphenburger SchlossWeighing in at a solid three pounds, the Kodak DC120 was a one MP digital unit featuring a compact flash slot and a 38-114 mm lens equivalent. First released in 1997, it also had a 3:1 zoom lens and 2 MB internal storage. It was an upgrade to the earlier DC 40 and DC50 models in that it also had a colour LCD for reviewing pictures. Sadly, photos were stored in Kodak’s KDC format rather than .jpg or .gif.

The DC120 required a great deal of battery power, using four AA-sized 1.7-volt lithium batteries. These needed replacement every 20 to 30 photos. Ordinary batteries could be used to preserve settings, but did not have the capacity to power the DC120 for taking pictures. The cost of the DC120 at the time was about $1000 US/£670.

This camera is now in Perth, Australia and it is hoped that photographs taken in the last few months will be added to this post shortly. If you have images from a DC120 and would like to share them with visitors, please make contact. Nowadays I use an Panasonic TZ31 digital camera.

Update 2016

New Style & New Layout

2016. Finally there has been enough time to update the original Munich City Guide. This is the 6th and possibly the last major update since 1996, the guide is now 20 years old, one of the oldest websites still operating. The original design was made with Microsoft Notepad using a magazine article to copy and past code, now it is a lot easier.

Wordpress 4.4.1 2016This Guide uses WordPress with a modified Theme from a market leader in Professional Themes What makes any selection of a Theme important, is the support provided.

2016

Unfortunately I no longer live in Munich to provide more personal information and images on a regular basis. Living in the Bavarian Forest one and half hours from Munich makes it much harder. The Guide is a mixture of personal pages and selected links to other suitable companies. This is always under review and new additions are planned monthly.

I have also decided to accept more advertising as this is more acceptable nowadays, but apart from the Google ads, the other advertisement are selected to suit the guide. If you are interested in advertising, please see the advertising guide (opens in a new window) for more information.

Normal Service will be resumed as soon as possible

We apologise for being off-line

The Munich City Guide was off line for 6 days due to the web server at the hosting company being hacked. We take pride in offering a guide to Munich for English speaking visitors and depend on the services provided by a hosting company. Over the last 20 years the Guide has been operating this has happened a few times, mainly due to technical problems. Hacking is the latest challenge facing website owners and service providers. Our site was not hacked and regular checks are made to prevent any malware being distributed.

Were does the title come from?

In the early days of television in the UK, the BBC had a test card displayed when technical problems happened. The words ” Normal Service will be resumed as soon as possible ” are part of British television history. There is an article about the very first video recorder used by the BBC, and when this stopped working for any reason, then the message ” Normal Service will be resumed as soon as possible” was displayed.

New home Hosting Company

Since the beginning of the year we have been having many problems with the existing home hosting company. The final straw was in February, when the server this website was hosted on was hacked. We managed to get it working again and then 3 days later, down again.

Opened tickets concerning the problem went un-answered, live Chat sessions produce promises which never happen. So the decision was made to final a new hosting company, with the type of hosting we required, the excellent WordPress platform and great support staff. Eventually we think we have found one and will be test the installation live over the coming weeks.

Since moving to the new hosting company we are happy to report that uptime has been excellent.

Plenty of stalls selling Christmas decorations, grilled sausages and glühwein in Marienplatz and part of the pedestrian area towards Karlsplatz ( Stachus ) and the outdoor ice skating rink.

Here are some images taken on Friday 1st December.

Every year Kaufhof in the pedestrian area in Kaufinger Straße decorates their shop windows with animated toys. This is a big attraction, naturally for children but old and young alike.

The department store is a well known trusted brand in Germany.

The attraction is part of the Munich Christkindlmarkt but lasts until early January. See more images of the Christkindlmarkt
